Share the cost of flying our Cessna 172

Our Flying Program lets licensed pilots who are members of the club fly our Cessna 172, C-GIEO.

Requirements

• A current Qualicum Beach Flying Club membership of any type.
  Club membership is separate from the Flying Program.

• At least a Transport Canada Private Pilot Licence (Aeroplane).

• No aviation accidents or insurance claims in the past five years.

• A check ride with one of our approved instructors when you join, then once a year.

How to apply

To keep the aircraft available when members want to fly, the program is limited to about 30 pilots. We keep a short waiting list. Contact us to add your name to the program waiting list.

What it costs

2026/2027 program year: July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027.

Flying Program annual dues:
$850 per year. Covers the aircraft's fixed costs, including insurance.
Aircraft rate:
$106 per flight hour, dry (fuel not included).
Fuel:
The aircraft starts each flight with full tanks, and you top them up after your flight.
You only pay for the fuel you use.
Current avgas price at CAT4.

Comparing with Sealand?
Sealand Flight includes fuel in their hourly rate. To compare like with like, add fuel to our hourly rate and spread the yearly fees over the hours you expect to fly.

Insurance:
The aircraft is fully insured by the club.
If there is ever a claim, the pilot in command pays the deductible ($500–$1,000).

Scheduling & Billing

Our aircraft scheduling is completely online through professional software with online billing and accounting.

Maintenance & Safety

Our aircraft is stored in our private indoor hangar and maintained beyond required standards with methods such as laboratory oil testing and chemical monitoring.

Our aircraft scheduling software has the ability for any pilot member to prevent further bookings if any maintenance events occur.

A Community to Fly With

Many of our flying and non-flying members choose to fly with each other. There is a large amount of experience and knowledge in our community including airline pilots, military pilots, and current flight instructors. Our community is a great place to share the privilege of flight with others that can contribute to safer, more proficient, and more enjoyable aviating.
